Hey Alexa is a page dedicated to helping you install and use your Amazon Alexa device. At the moment, most of our information is  specific to the Amazon Echo 2nd generation. If you’re looking for help setting up your Echo, then you’ve come to the right place!

Getting Started

1. Download the Alexa app on mobile or go to the desktop page at http://alexa.amazon.com
2. Create an Amazon account and login
3. The Amazon Echo 2nd Generation has four buttons on top and two outlets in the back
4. Plug in the Echo and wait for Alexa to greet you

Connecting to Wifi

5. Make sure that your mobile or desktop device is connected to your home wifi.
6. Open the Alexa app and find the devices icon
7. On the Alexa app, select 'Echo and Alexa', then you should see a list of Echo devices within range, select the device you're setting up
8. This should bring you to a list of wifi networks, select your network and enter the password if needed
9. Wait for Alexa to say that the device is connected, you can check the connection by saying "Alexa, what time is it?'
10. Congratulations! Your Echo is ready to use! 

Using Your Echo

11. Start using Alexa by enabling a skill. Similar to how a mobile device has apps, Alexa has skills which can be used to listen to music, play games, and perform other tasks
12. To start using a skill, simply ask Alexa to enable the skill. For example, you might say, "Alexa, enable Red Riding Hood"
13. If you would like Alexa to respond after you say her name, you can say "Alexa, play start of request of sound"
